- 4/24 – We found smoothies in the airport! Taylor Gourmet, the sandwich shop in Concourse C, has a machine tucked into the corner that whips up mango and strawberry smoothies.
- 4/23 – We anticipate that Chick-Fil-A will close on April 30th. It will re-open in 4-6 months – same location, but revamped.
- 4/22 – We are completely out of the DC maps and visitor’s guides. We are expecting another delivery at the end of April.
- 4/19 – The Panic Buttons at the desks are working again. Please use them if needed.
- 4/16: Badge Renewals – A reminder that your badge expires on your birthday. All the details and instructions on how to renew your badge can be found in the Information Guide (see Badge Renewal Information). It’s also on the Volgistics home page. Please read this before calling our office and/or making a Wednesday appointment for a phone call to go over your paperwork.
- 4/15: Resource for Homeless Passengers/People in the Airport – PathForward is a local organization based in Arlington that provides homeless services. Among other things, they operate a Homeless Services Center a block from the Courthouse Metro. Recently, a Travelers Aid volunteer worked with an outreach worker from PathForward to collect a homeless passenger at the airport. (This woman actually came to the airport and picked up the passenger!!) The program looks very good. You can find a PathForward pamphlet in the metal box at the desks (please DO NOT give it away!), and in the Information Guide (look under “homeless”). The main number is 703-228-7803, a 24/7 number is 703-228-1010. The Outreach Worker is Yasmine Elmouhib (703-228-7813), who said we can call her anytime and, if she doesn’t answer, then call the main number.
- 4/15: Uber News – In Terminal 2 Uber drivers are supposed to pick up passengers along the inner curb. However, we are hearing that they are using the outer curb as well. You may want to alert passengers to be on the lookout on both curbs.
- 4/11: National Hall News: Solid State Books has opened in National Hall. It is right next to the Smithsonian shop.
- 4/10: Military Related – We have a 24/7 telephone number for members of any branch of the military who need a ride to Ft. Myer. It is the “Old Guard” Regiment Staff Duty number: 703-696-3003. It will be added to the Information Guide for reference.
- 4/9: There are a lot of Honor Flights on the calendar in the coming weeks. Here’s a link to see the schedule: 2025 schedule | Honor Flight DCA Reagan National Airport
- 4/9: Spring Break officially starts tomorrow, April 10th, and will last until April 25th. Expect increased passenger numbers during this period.
- 4/9: Volunteers at Terminal 1 – We have a new computer, but yesterday it shut down again and had to be rebooted. We have reported the problem to the IT people. If the computer shuts down during your shift, then (1) please reboot it and hopefully that will solve the problem, at least temporarily; and (2) send us a message so we can alert the IT people. Thanks!
- 4/3: The shoeshine in Concourse C is permanently closed. There is only one shoeshine now – in National Hall across from the north podium.
- 4/1: Tresor’s Boutique in National Hall has closed.
- 3/28: Please DO NOT make pages for Alaska Airlines unless the request comes directly from the station manager. Recently we have been getting requests from Alaska Airlines staff to make pages for gate changes. If this happens during your shift, please tell them we can only make pages if asked by the station manager. Also, please send an email or text to Travelers Aid staff telling us about the request – we are keeping track of these. Thanks!
- 3/27: Phones at the Desks – The new phones continue to be updated and 5-digit numbers (e.g. 7-2400) may not go through. Please dial the whole number – e.g. 703-417-XXXX – for now.
- 3/21: REMINDER!! Upcoming Avis/Budget Shuttle Relocation in Terminal 2!! – On Monday, March 24 the location of the Avis/Budget shuttle stops in Terminal 2 will move to the First Curb outside Doors 3 and 9. This is the curb that taxis and hotel shuttles use. We will update the laminates.
- 3/20: New Phones at the Desks – MWAA is in the process of replacing our telephones. FYI – they have a new ring.
- 3/19: Parking Reminder – We encourage you to check the parking status before your shift and/or take Metro to the airport. For your convenience we have put a link to the airport’s website page with current parking numbers on the Volgistics home page.
- 3/18: Terminal 1 Traffic and Walkways – The airport is looking into ways to mitigate the traffic bottlenecks that frequently occur on the Terminal 1 roadways, particularly the outer lane. They have blocked the first walkway and have moved the Ride Share drop-off zone closer to the pick-up zone. These are tests at the moment and may or may not become permanent.
- 3/12: The company that does TSA Pre-check on the Arrivals Level is called Idemia. Sometimes passengers come with just that information.
- 2/21: We have put hand warmers at the desks (except Terminal 1 because it doesn’t get too cold there). They are for VOLUNTEERS ONLY. You can find them in the metal boxes.
- 2/14: The kiosks are working, but we are finding that they may need to be rebooted to log in, especially in the morning. To do this, take a paper clip and poke it into the top blue hole on the right side of the machine. (This will make sense when you see it!) The machine will turn off. Then poke it again with the paper clip and the machine should turn back on and allow you to log in.
- 12/12: Lost & Found reminders. If a valuable item is turned into you, you should make a page. If no one responds to the page – and the airport’s Lost & Found office is open – then either take the item to Lost & Found or put the item in the Lost and Found box in the cabinet. When the airport’s Lost & Found office is open, we should only contact police regarding “cash” or unattended bags and this should be done immediately. If the airport’s Lost & Found office is closed, you should call the police for high value items only. If the police do not arrive during your shift, then put the item in the Lost and Found box in the cabinet. Please keep in mind that lost and found items are generally a low priority for police officers. Do not move bags of any kind that have been left unattended.
- 11/6: A tip on using the Metro Trip Planner. Have you ever had the system reject the original destination? Try this: when selecting the airport as the original destination, start typing “ron” (without the italics). You should immediately get three options. Select the first one that says: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Rona… It should work.
- Heaters at the desks. We have standing heaters at the checkpoints and baggage desks, and smaller hand heaters at the podiums and in Terminal 1. If you are at baggage desk, please DO NOT move the heaters – they are plugged into an outlet that will not trip the fuse and shut off power to the computer. At ALL desks, please DO NOT turn the heaters on high – this often trips the fuses. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you find suspect a tripped fuse, you can call a staff member or the DCA Work Order Desk (703-417-8063). Also, please remember to turn off the heater and put it back into the cabinet when you close up the desk. Thanks!
- Computers at the desks. If you see any pop-up ads on the computers during your shift (we have seen some saying the computer is exposed and asking to click to update) please call the IT department at 703-417-8342.
- Virginia Aviation Ambassador Passports: We have the passports and have put them at both checkpoints and Terminal 1. They are in a marked plastic box with the stamp (previously in the metal box).
- Just a reminder: if a telephone number is listed in red, it is for volunteer use only. DO NOT give it to passengers.
