South Block, a smoothie shop, just opened at D9! Yay!

12/24/24 East Mezzanine CPU

The usual malfunctioning CPU at East Mezz. was taken by Tech Works to their department for further diagnostics. We expect the CPU to be returned within the next 48hrs or so. Let’s be patient as we hope that this will ‘finally’ be the final fix for our E. Mezz CPU woes. If you would like CPU access, you can sign an iPad out of the storage at L1. Thanks!

12/13/2024 Public Wi-Fi Name Has Changed

The SSID name for the public Wi-Fi here at IAD will change on December 18th. The new Wi-Fi name will be: #IAD Free WiFi. The FlyDulles Wi-Fi name will still be in effect for the time being and will be even after the rollout date. (to help avoid slight immediate confusion for users).

11/25/2024 Priority Pass – Which Lounge Can I Access?

I watched a good YouTube video recently that gave a great, simple explanation to this age-old question. First thing to know is a passenger’s level of access can vary dramatically based on if they got their Priority Pass membership directly through Priority Pass or with one of the many partner credit cards such as American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, US Bank, etc.

Step 1: Log into your Priority Pass account (online or mobile app)

Step 2: Search for an airport (by city or airport code)

Step 3: ONLY the locations you can access with that specific Priority Pass membership will appear

Step 4: (For people with multiple Priority Pass memberships) If you want to view the locations for another Priority Pass membership you have, then you’ll need to log out of the first and log into the second.

If you have multiple Priority Pass memberships, each one will require you to create a unique login. They’ll have unique membership numbers and will NOT merge.

11/20/2024 United Global Services New Location

United Global Services is an invitation only super elite status with United Mileage Plus to some of United’s most profitable customers. The invite criteria are not made public, but it requires substantial spending. It is the highest-level of their loyalty program.

Effective today, a Global Services office has opened to the right (or West side) of TSA PreCheck.  The original Global Services counter position on the front side of Kiosk 4 is now extended Premier Access.

The laminated maps will be updated next month.

Our bus operates transportation to/from a couple of colleges in Virginia to Dulles Airport and downtown DC a few times a year. (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break)

They utilize curb 2A. This service is contracted out to various Operators. The Operator name will usually be on the side of the bus with a sign in the front window to identify Our Bus.

10/27/2024  Gate B40 Closure

For our Concourse Volunteers, please note that Gate B40 will be closed on or about Mon Oct 28 for construction work. This phase is expected to be complete on or about Mon Dec 23.  Allegiant usually uses this gate.

10/24/2024  Phone Charger Power Cords

We’ve labeled and colored the phone charging power cords in an effort to find them more easily. Please check both sides of the desks at L1, L2, and Intl as there are “pigeon holes” where cords feed down to the outlets.

At the end of the day or when there isn’t another Volunteer relieving you, please unplug the phone charger. Leave the power cord on the desk. Lock up the charger and pig tails (various charging ports) in the cabinet that has the plastic office supply organizer.

10/22/2024 AeroTrain Maintenance Today

While the Aerotrain will continue to serve all stations during this period, we want to inform passengers that to minimize inconvenience, a supplementary Mobile Lounge service will operate between the Main Terminal and the C Gates and between the A and C Gates during peak times, Temporary signage and additional personnel will be deployed in the terminal to assist with wayfinding. The walk back tunnel to the A/B Concourse is also available to use.

We received word from Delta Airlines that there is some type of event for Olympians being held in DC this weekend. He was supposed to get back to me with specifics but unfortunately has not. Apparently, a couple of Delta flights will use Bag Claim 10 instead of their normal Bag Claim 14. I would guess their Baggage Services agent would make announcements as well. This would affect Thursday and Friday.

We were notified several weeks ago that inbound TP231 and outbound TP232 for Tue Sep 17 were cancelled. Hopefully, all of their customers have already been notified and rebooked. These flights won’t be displayed on the Arrivals/Departures screens.

Recently there was an incident at DCA where an illegitimate website address was displayed on an airport monitor. The monitor was near a TSA security checkpoint and the web address looks official but isn’t. The website address was tsatraveltips.us  That is not an official TSA website. If you notice anything similar, please contact TechWorks to report it.

9/15/2024 Upcoming AeroTrain Maintenance

On Sep 17 from 12:00am-4:30am, preventative maintenance will close the C AeroTrain station and the C Concourse Walkback Tunnel. The AeroTrain system will operate trains from the Main Terminal to A & B gates ONLY. During this period, Mobile Lounge service will operate between the Main Terminal and the C gates (on demand). Temporary signage and additional personnel will be deployed at the Main Terminal and C Concourse to assist with wayfinding. The A/B Walkback Tunnel to the A/B Concourse is also available for use.

9/11/2024 Please Don’t Shut Down Computers

As a friendly reminder, you don’t need to shut down the computer at the end of your shift/day.  Simply turn the monitor off. This is especially troublesome at East and West Mezzanine because we don’t have easy access to turn them back on. A technician needs to make a service call and that can take hours. Thanks!

Effective 9-1-2024 SAS is now a member of SkyTeam. Their lounge has changed from Lufthansa/Turkish to the Virgin Atlantic lounge.

9/2/2024  September Chaser Tickets and Garage 2

We’ve been asked to avoid parking in Garage 2 because of some Chaser ticket issues last month until the all clear is given. There were a handful of chasers that didn’t work in Garage 2. Also, because of the holiday weekend our September Chaser tickets won’t be delivered until sometime on Tuesday. We’ve been assured that the August Chaser tickets are still valid.

8/30/24 Lost and Found Procedures

Please ensure that with lost and found items, we do not go further than logging the item (making an announcement if needed) and delivering the item to lost and found. In some instances, we have heard of volunteers who have been trying to reunite the item with the owner by doing some research on anyone associated with the lost item. While the intentions may be well meaning, there are serious privacy concerns associated with this practice and Travelers Aid volunteers should not be involved in this activity. MWAA would like to ensure that we keep our efforts to reunite lost and found items to simple attempts to contact the person via announcements and delivering the item to Lost and Found at the first available opportunity.

8/29/24 refrain from parking in Garage 2 till further notice

Volunteers are asked to refrain from parking in Garage 2 until further notice. We have had reports that some of the chaser tickets are not working in Garage 2 and the parking people are looking into it. They have advised that, for the time being, to try and park elsewhere. Good news is that there has been plenty of space available in terminal lot recently. 😉

As of 5.30pm on Wednesday 28th, the maintenance for the Aerotrain has been completed and the train schedule is back to normal. Thanks so much to all our volunteers for helping out and enabling minimal disruption for passengers. You guys were fantastic!

8/26/2024 Global Entry Enrollment on Departure Reminder

We’ve had several customers inquire about Enrollment on Departure recently so it’s a good time review.

Enrollment on Departure: Two CBP Officers staff a location across from Gate B41 (the old smoking
lounge). Applicants need their passport and a physical document providing evidence of residency
(such as driver’s license if the address is current, mortgage statement, rental payment statement,
utility bill, etc.)  *The traveler must be conditionally approved* meaning they completed the online form and paid the $100 fee. Interviewees may walk-in to interview with no appointment.

8/25/2024  New Whiteboard at International

When volunteering in the IAB, please write your name and cell number on the new whiteboard at international. We’ve received suggestions from Volunteers who would find this helpful in certain situations. Please remember, Volunteers aren’t allowed to remove any baggage from IAB. Please work with the airlines for a solution. Lost cell phones are often turned in to the CBP officer who sits near the exit. Identifying yourself and inquiring respectfully usually lends itself to the officer either allowing us to reunite the phone with its owner or allowing the passenger to re-enter Customs to positively identify it.

8/25/2024 No Morning FIS Operations This Week

United Airlines will not operate in the FIS during am operations(6:00am-9:00am) for the period 8/26 – 8/30 to support FIS project work.

All UAL International arrivals for the above will clear Customs in the IAB with bag recheck and customers expecting to clear TSA at the West Checkpoint for connection to United Airlines or other airlines.

8/20/2024 Ongoing Construction on A/B Ramp Apron

Phase 2 will be underway beginning on/around September 3. Gate A32 will be closed during this phase. Additionally, gates B40, A24, A20A, A20 and A14 will not have hydrant fuel available. Expect gate shuffling for the airlines usually assigned to these gates.

We found a box of cloth masks and will distribute them to all pre-security desks today. In the coming week, we’ll also get them out to the concourse podiums.

8/16/24 Lost and Found Items – changes

We would like all items handed to volunteers to be entered into the system via the Lost & Found Entry Form on the dashboard as soon as you receive them, and before you make a page concerning the item(s). This will enable us to more accurately record instances of lost and found items handled by TA. Saudi Flight from Saturday: Customers should try to file a claim online if they have not already done so. Saudi will also have staff on duty Monday at 9am. Bags are behind stanchions at Bag Claim 7.  (Update as of Mon Aug 5 10am)

KLM Flight from Saturday: The bags are all going back to AMS/Amsterdam from the diversion airport. Apparently, they will fly the bags back to IAD starting tomorrow and in the coming days. PHL was overwhelmed and only handled passengers without bags. Once bags arrive IAD, they will start the dispatch process of sending directly to their address or call them to come to airport to pick up.(Update as of Sun Aug 4 1:00pm)

Air France Flight: Air France will be sending all bags back to CDG. PHL was overwhelmed with handling flights. They expect the bags to start arriving tomorrow and in the coming days. Once bags arrive IAD, they will start the dispatch process of sending directly to their address or call them to come to airport to pick up.  (Update as of Sun Aug 4 1:00pm)

Qatar flight from Saturday: It arrived IAD around 12:20am Sun Aug 4 (Update as of Sun Aug 4 12:00pm)

MWAA has contracted with Ricondo & Associates to evaluate the Baggage Handling System at IAD. The purpose of the surveys and observations is to record process times for ticket counters as a critical part of the Baggage Handling System. 7/14/2024 Avelo Airlines Began Service Fri Jul 12

Avelo Airlines began service between Washington Dulles and New Haven, CT/HVN on Fri Jul 12. The Boeing 737 service is as follows:

#493 arrives IAD at 6:20pm

#494 departs IAD at 7:05pm

They will operate on Mondays and Fridays using Gate B37. Ticket Counter is on the backside of Kiosk 1, near Ethiopian and Aer Lingus. There is no baggage service office.

The Info Manual will be updated at the end of this month.

Due to an accident that occurred on Route 28 Northbound near Mcclearn Road just prior to 1400, traffic on Route 28 North AND South bound is being slowed and/or diverted. Fairfax Fire has cleared the scene, PD is still on site conducting an investigation. This will affect passengers arriving late for flights

6/26/24 GM: Metro price Increases

Metro prices will be going up starting June 30th. Metrobus will be $2.25, Metrorail will be $2.25-$6.75 and unlimited passes will also see an increase. Senior discount is still 50% off. We will update info manual at the end of the month.

6/24/2024 Main Terminal Skylight Replacements

On or around Wed June 26, damaged skylights at two locations will be removed and replaced.

1. TSA Pre-Check, South Finger; East escalator and stairs will be closed. West esclator and elevators will remain open. Work at this location will start at 8am and is anticipated to be completed by 12p.
2. Main Terminal Aerotrain Station, East Platform; Escalators and stairs will be closed. Elevators will remain open. Work at this location will start around 12p and is anticipated to be completed by 5p.

6/21/24 Parking Status 10:08AM

Garage 1 is currently FULL and Garage 2 isn’t far behind with only 78 spaces remaining.  It is likely that both garages will fill today and we will be diverting garage parkers to Economy.  Plenty of space is available in Economy.  Terminal lot currently has 409 spaces available but that is likely to fill during this afternoon’s peak. Parking is expected to be limited through the weekend – please allow more time to reach an open space, in case your preferred facility is full.

Airport Operations has temporarily closed the Metro Walkback tunnel Door 2 entrance and exit due to both elevators being out of service. AT&T has reported network issues which may affect the ability to call 911 from wireless devices. We’ve been informed that DC3 HotDog Joint, Five Guys and Wendy’s on the B concourse have closed permanently. Bagels & More opened in the old Au Bon Pain space on the C concourse. Our electronic resources will be updated soon. However, the Shop & Dine maps are becoming less useful with all the turnover. At the moment, it’s not feasible to ask Fraport to print new maps until openings/closings stabilize.

5/29/2024  Wheelchair Pusher and Skycap/Porter Complaints

We’ve received complaints from passengers about wheelchair and skycap personnel demanding tips or charging specific fees for their services. This is unacceptable. If someone reports a complaint to you, please direct them to flydulles.com and click “Contact Us” in the upper right-hand corner to report it.  Important information to include is the airline, flight number, passenger’s name, time of incident, and description of the airport employee. This is the best way to report it.

5/28/2024  MWAA Lost & Found Office Meeting

5/28/2024 Mobile Passport Control or MPC

You may notice more electronic signage and possibly pamphlets around the airport promoting MPC at Dulles.  This is another way to make it faster to go through immigrations.

5/24/24 Issue with phone when calling non emergency/emergency  police (RESOLVED)

Dulles is currently reporting problems calling non-emergency (703-572-2400) and emergency numbers (911) from desks. Please call MWAA operations (703-572-2730) in case of emergencies if you cannot get through on other numbers. Situation is being looked at hopefully resolved soon! EDIT: Issue has been resolved – it seems it appears to have been a result of the power outage, that subsequently caused a Telephony Gateway to “lockup/freeze up” within the Call Handling Equipment (CHE).

5/22/2024  Global Entry Enrollment Event on Wed May 22

The event is open to all Dulles airport employees with a Valid MWAA SIDA badge. It will be held in the East Ground Transportation Center which is located between Arrival Door 6 and 7, just as you enter the airport from the Terminal Lot. Hours are 9am-2pm.

Fraport (the new concession management company) advised us of the following:

• Washington Informer on the Bag Claim level has closed and “News & Gifts” will replace it.
• Forbes on the Ticketing level closed and another “News & Gifts” will be taking its place.
• DC Hotdog Joint on the B concourse will close 5-12-2024.
• Five Guys on the B concourse will close 5-12-2024.
• Wendy’s on the B concourse will close 5-19-2024

All of these establishments were at the end of their leases.

5/8/2024 Desk Closing Procedures

Please ensure you are completing the following at the end of the day and/or no one is following you at a desk.

• Put away phone chargers, Clorox wipes, Kleenex , clickers, etc.
• Place signs on desktops (Sorry We Missed You and/or Arrivals Level Sign)

5/7/2024 Computer Mouse at International

The computer and mouse closest to Cafe Americana seem to have frequent issues.  Recently, Volunteers have reported that they lose mouse functionality. Try turning off the computer from the cabinet underneath and wait a few seconds. Then, turn it back on. It will take a few minutes for the computer to fully reboot. We’ve found that this fixes the mouse issue.

The Count Sheets and “stories” are only reviewed at the end of each month. Please do not request supplies or alert staff with things that need more immediate attention using Count Sheets. Kindly use the “Reporting Form” on the Dashboard as this form is monitored daily.

5/3/2024 Sad news

Some sad news to report as longtime volunteer Bud Reed passed away recently. Bud volunteered with Travelers Aid for many years and was a very popular figure within the airport. Arrangements will be made in accordance with the families wishes, and when we know the details, we will pass them on.

5/1/2024  Issues With Entering Assist Numbers?

Lately, a handful of Volunteers seemed to have a problem with Volgistics *not* recording their number of assists.  I’ve checked with Volgistics and they need more info to investigate.

• What kind of device are you using?  Are you using the VicNet app?
• Do you receive an error message of some kind when this happens?

5/1/2024 Run The Greenway Event on Sat May 4

“May the 4th Be With You” 5K/10K and Kids Fun Run will be held beginning at 8am on Sat May 4. Please note that beginning at 4:30am the Dulles Greenway 267, West Toll Road, will be closed from Route 28 to Route 772, Ashburn Broadland Boulevard. This will include closure of Ramp G to 267 West at the airport from eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway until 12:00pm Noon.

All traffic outbound from the airport expecting to use Ramp G to 267 West will be rerouted to Route 28 North. Exits onto the Greenway from Routes 606 and 607 in the area will also be closed. Please use Waxpool Road to Route 772 or Route 28 North to Route 7 to bypass the Dulles Greenway Charity Run event.

4/25/2024 Willard Village History Exhibit

The exhibit will be next to the Emirates ticket counter where the bench charging seats were once located. The project has run into some delays but is projected to be completed in May 2024.

The weather conditions improved in Dubai, however Emirates operations is still severely impacted by yesterday’s weather.

Due to the large volume of calls, customers are experiencing extended delays reaching the contact centres (1 800 777 3999) . Kindly direct customers to emirates.com, The Emirates App, or their travel agent to check flight status, rebooking or refunds.

Emirates does NOT perform any ticketing or reservations functions at their check-in desks.  They open daily from 6:55 am to 9:55 am to issue boarding passes and accept baggage of customers holding confirmed reservations for the departing flight.

• As of 3:58pm the IAB is at capacity and Mobile Lounges are being metered until adequate space opens up. 45 min -1 hour waits for both U.S. and non U.S. citizens. As of 5:03pm the IAB Mobile Lounge Metering has concluded.

4/2/2024  Price Change for Global Entry and NEXUS Coming in October

As of 10/1/2024 the cost of Global Entry membership will be increasing from $100 to $120.  In addition, minors (under the age of 18) will be exempt from the application fee if they apply concurrently with a parent or legal guardian, or if their parent or legal guardian is already a member of the same program.  This is the first price increase in over 15 years.

Also on 10/1/2024 the cost of NEXUS will increase from $50 to $120. NEXUS allows expedited entry between US/Canada using Global Entry kiosks.

Note: The price of TSA PreCheck is not changing.

3/28/24 Chaser Tickets Problems (updated 5.30pm)

Sorry that some volunteers are experiencing problems with the chaser tickets. This is the official response from parking:

In our efforts to update our chaser ticket system process per MWAA internal audit team, your March chaser ticket will be impacted.

Please notify all chaser ticket distributors to please have all chaser ticket recipients Contractors, Volunteers, and others to proceed to cashier’s booth upon exit to minimize any further delays. An update for volunteers parking in Garage 1 and 2 would be to go to normal credit card lanes if they don’t have any staff at Cash Lane. We believe (from reports from volunteers) that they are unable to remotely open the cash gate, so will ask you to reverse and go to credit card lane.

Please note this is a recurring issue and is affecting all airport staff, not just TA volunteers. We are hoping for a speedy resolution and will notify you as soon as it is fixed!

3/27/2024 Ready Card Machines

We’ve made contact with the company who runs the Ready Card Machines. (The cash to debit card machines)  The customer service number listed on the machines is incorrect. The correct number is 888-500-5750. They claim they will come out to update it.

The Metro Maps are on back order, and we don’t know their ETA. In the meantime, direct customers to www.wmata.com  The Trip Planner automatically comes up. You can show customers how to plan their trip from the convenience of their phone. It’s all in *real time*.  Simple type “IAD” in the “From” section and the address or landmark they’re going to in the “To” section. Voila! It will show them step by step directions including how long it will take and how much it will cost.

If you still need a paper map, check out the last pages of the Fly Washington magazine stocked around the airport.

The Etihad Lounge opened today, 3/5.

Their current operating hours are from 0600 until 2200 daily.

The charging bench was relocated due to the new upcoming Willard Exhibit that will be in the location it previously occupied.

Door 2 Pedestrian Wallback Tunnel to Metro/Garage 1 is reopened.

One of two elevators are not working, but Schlinder has restarted down Escalatror#1263 so that passengers are able to exit the terminal.  Signs and barricades have been removed.

Spring break is upon us! Our Bus operates one run from Virginia Tech to IAD on Fri March 1. It arrives at Curb 2A on the Arrivals level at 4:00pm.

2/29/2024 Sun Country Airlines Begins Limited Service

Beginning Thu Feb 29, Sun Country will be operating an abnormal schedule as they are supplementing charter flights with scheduled service. The first flight will arrive from Minneapolis-St.Paul/MSP at 11:32am and assigned to Gate B49/51. There doesn’t seem to be an outbound flight.

Effective April 18th, Sun Country’s scheduled service begins regularly on Thursdays and Sundays.

2/22/2024 Cellular Outage

A cascading cellular service outage is occurring among the major telecom providers: AT&T (FirstNet), Consumer Cellular, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon. Issues making calls are sporadic.   Call 911 for emergency services from a landline.

2/19/2024 Presidents’ Day Closures

Both MWAA Lost and Found and the PassID office will be closed on Mon Feb 19 for Presidents’ Day.  In addition, PassID will be closed from 12:30pm-2:30pm on Wed Feb 21.

2/12/2024 Enrollment on Departure Program

CBP will tentatively begin offering Enrollment on Departure for Global Entry beginning Monday, 2/12 from their new location across from Gate B41 (the old smoking lounge).

They will be open daily from 12pm until 8pm, 7 days a week. Only internationally departing passengers from Dulles Airport will be allowed to utilize this service (subject to change depending on how popular or busy it is).

What is Enrollment on Departure? Global Entry applicants who are conditionally approved can complete their interviews, the last step of the Global Entry process, prior to departing the United States on their
next international flight.

1/18/2024 TAP Air Portugal Cancellations

TAP flights 231 and 232 are cancelled today. This was preplanned so we expect minimal customer impact. They will have additional preplanned cancellations in the coming weeks, and we will communicate those to you. These flights are not on the Arrivals/Departures screens as of 10am/18JAN.

1/15/2024 Royal Air Maroc

Royal Air Maroc has been having flight issues as of late. Their flight from Sunday went on rolling delays and ended up canceling today. The bags from that flight are out in front of their Baggage Service office behind Bag Claim 15. Right now they do have a few ladies from Swissport trying to sort through the luggage. That’s all we know as of 1:20pm/Mon Jan 15

1/15/2024 Pass ID and Lost & Found Offices Closures This Week

1/12/2024  Metro Maintenance Today through Monday

Starting today through Monday, Jan 15, Metro will close a portion of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines.

If Going Downtown:  Take Silver Line from Dulles to Clarendon where the Silver Line ends. Take the free shuttle bus to Foggy Bottom. Continue on the Blue/Orange Line from Foggy Bottom. (The shuttle bus stops at Rosslyn along the way.)

If Going to DCA:  Take Silver Line from Dulles to Clarendon where the Silver Line ends. Take the free express bus to Arlington Cemetery. Continue on the Blue Line to DCA.

Allow at least 30 minutes of additional travel time to account for shuttle buses.

The last trains departing Dulles will leave approximately 23 minutes earlier than scheduled:

• Friday/Saturday:  11:37pm
• Sunday/Monday:  10:37pm

As always, check your “Metro Trip Planner” under “Ground Transportation” on the Dashboard or tell customers to check www.wmata.com on their phones.

1/5/2024  Winter Weather

As we enter an El Nino winter with increased chances of wintry weather, please always do what is best for you and your comfort level when winter weather is predicted around your volunteer shifts.  There is no guilt or shame in cancelling your shift (says the native Floridian scared of ice) – your safety and well-being are most important to us!!  Please just send a quick email to us if you want to cancel so we can shift folks around as necessary to fill any gaps.  Thank you!

New phone chargers have been placed at L2 and International. There are two cords for iPhones and 2 cords for Samsung phones. (Labeled)  The last person at the desk each day should unplug it and lock it in the Chaser Ticket cabinet.

There is a new tea kettle in the Volunteer breakroom. It has one simple On/Off switch. It turns off automatically when the water comes to a boil. Please make sure it turns off.

There is an ATC strike and a volcanic eruption affecting flights in/out of RKV/Reykjavik. We’ve asked Airport Operations to update the departure and arrival screens so passengers have information. Play’s ticket counter signage advises passengers the counter will open at 9:50pm. No announcements should be initiated. Thank you.

12/16/2023  Metro Red Line Work Dec 18-30

Red Line service will be halted between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place December 18-30 with free shuttle bus service from those stations to Metro Center.  Farragut North station will be closed.  No Red Line trains will run into Metro Center.

12/15/2023  Chaser Tickets Don’t Mix with Magnetic Materials

Be sure you don’t store your chaser ticket next to your credit cards or your phone.  This can demagnetize your chaser ticket, rendering it useless.

12/14/2023  Terminal Lot Parking – Chaser Tickets

This week a few volunteers have experienced difficulty exiting the Terminal Lot with a chaser ticket.  We have sent a couple of inquiries to the Parking Office to get to the bottom of it, but in the meantime, if you have a need to park there, try the chaser ticket but be prepared to press the “Help” button to exit.  Please continue to let us know when you experience problems exiting.

Please keep your wits about you when walking through the airport.  A pickpocketing ring has targeted DCA a few times and here once.  Also be sure to lock your car doors to deter theft.

Did you know you can search key words in the Info Manual on an iPhone?  Neither did I but a big thanks goes to Deana and Iftikhar for this helpful tip.

1. Open the Info Manual.
2. Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen.  It looks like a square with an arrow pointing up.
3. Scroll down and tap “Find on Page”.
4. Type in the word or phrase you want to find in the search bar.
5. Tap  ↓ or ↑ the to jump to other mentions.

11/20/2023  New Bus Service “Our Bus”

Our Bus is offering LIMITED service between Dulles and Blacksburg/Virginia Tech primarily around college breaks.  They will operate two trips from IAD to Blacksburg on Sun Nov 26 at 5:40pm and 6:45pm. Pick up is at curb 2A.

Our Bus operates many other routes but the pickup/drop off is at Tysons or Stadium-Armory Metro station. Check out www.ourbus.com for more information. Resources will be updated soon.

11/20/2023  TSA Cares Screening Assistance

Through TSA Cares, a traveler may request the services of a TSA Passenger Support Specialist (PSS), who can provide assistance through security screening.  A PSS is a TSA officer who has received specialized training, including how to effectively assist and communicate with individuals with disabilities or medical conditions; and travelers who need additional screening assistance. Requesting PSS service does not exempt you from security screening.

Some situations where you may request PSS assistance may include, but are not limited to:

• Have difficulty following instructions due to a disability or medical condition.
• Have mobility limitations including difficulty standing, walking or lifting your arms.
• Use wheelchairs, mobility aids or support devices.
• Have internal/external devices or other concerns that may affect your ability to use screening technology.
• Are transporting medically necessary liquids, gels, aerosols over 3.4oz.
• Are traveling with a child who has a disability or medical condition, or is transgender.
• Are traveling with a service animal.
• Have difficulty understanding and communicating in English.
• Are traveling with religious or cultural items.
• Wear religious headwear or clothing.
• Are a Tribal traveler with cultural, sacred, spiritual items and/or ceremonial regalia and headdress.
• Have concerns regarding screening for transgender and gender diverse individuals.
• Are traveling with crematory ashes.

11/19/2023  Dulles Holiday Traffic Management

From now through the end of the year, the following changes are in place to help manage the increased road traffic:

• Kiss & Fly (mentioned below on 11-17-23)
• Uber/Lyft/Alto centralized drop-off *and* pick-up from the 3rd curb at Arrivals (mentioned below on 10-30-23)
• Valet is shrinking their drop off area on the Departures level

11/18/2023  Silver Line Service Truncated This Weekend

This Saturday and Sunday, the Metro’s Silver Line will operate only between Ashburn and Ballston; to continue their trip, customers must transfer to/from the Orange Line at the Ballston station.

11/17/2023  Kiss & Fly!

No, the airport is not introducing a new dating service.  For this heavy traffic period, the Airports Authority has implemented a Kiss & Fly option for drop-offs only.  Upon approaching the airport, there are numerous signs directing people to the Kiss & Fly drop-off location which is on the bus lane between the metro station and Garage 1.

11/15/2023  New Paging Number

The new paging number is 20141.  Tech Works has a work order in with the phone company to update the automatic dial buttons on our phones, but for now, please manually punch in the numbers.  We are updating the paging instructions at the desks and the Info Manual will be updated in the next round.  (Thank you, Roger, for the info!!)

10/30/2023:  Change to Rideshare Drop Offs

Starting Wed, Nov 1, through the end of the year, Uber, Lyft, and Alto will be directed to conduct all pick-ups and drop-offs at the 3rd curb to reduce traffic impacts on the departures level.  Zones 3A and 3B on the west and 3G and 3H on the east can be used for drop-offs.

10/30/2023  International Flights Affected by DST Differences

US Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday, Nov 5, which apparently is later than Europe/Africa, where it ended on Oct 29.  From now through Saturday, Nov 4, mainly European and African flights will be coming in and going out an hour later.

The 2023 Washington Baltimore Regional Air Passenger Survey, approved by the Airports Authority, is ongoing through October 31.  Passengers may be approached by surveyors at gates.

The Parking Office advised us that the October chaser tickets will be printed and delivered on October 3. We have been promised that the September chaser tickets *will* work until then. As soon as the October tickets are delivered we will get them out to all of the pre-security desks.

9/29/2023 Weekend Office Staffing and Deliveries

Amy won’t be in the office this weekend but she greatly appreciates the weekend crew! The cart will be in the breakroom for any needed supplies. Items on order are: pens, Metro brochures, and Lost and Found business cards. I hope to receive these items in the coming week. As always, please call the office with any deliveries and leave a message.  Should anything be delivered over the weekend:

• Brochures or heavy boxes keep at L1 and we’ll hope they don’t disappear

The quick serve restaurant offers Greek-inspired, create your own menu, featuring breakfast, lunch/dinner items, soft drinks, juices, beer, and wine. It’s located on the B concourse. Resources will be updated.

9/19/2023 New Global Entry Mobile App Available

CBP has released a new Mobile App for Global Entry Members! The app went live on 9/19 and allows for GE members to submit their travel document and photo through a free secure app on their smartphone or mobile device.  If GE members choose to use the app they can skip the kiosk in the IAB/FIS and proceed straight to the CBP officer in the Global Entry lanes.

CBP’s Global Entry Mobile App is free and can be downloaded from the Apple App store and Google Play. The app is currently being used at the following sites:

• Seattle Tacoma International Airport
• Los Angeles International Airport
• Miami International Airport
• Orlando International Airport
• Washington Dulles International Airport
• Pittsburgh International Airport
• George Bush Intercontinental Airport

9/19/2023 Chaser Tickets

You may notice that some of the September Chaser Tickets say “IAD Ops” on them instead of “Travelers Aid”. We are aware and there is no problem using them.

9/15/2023 The New Metro Guides and Mini Metro Guides Are Here!

We received a partial order of newly updated Metro Guides *and* Mini Metro Guides. With the amount shipped, we were able to stock L1, L2, and International with full size Metro guides and a smaller supply of the Mini Metro Guides. You will probably need to check the cabinets. I will put some on the cart in the break room if you want to get them for other locations. I could use some help with distribution. Thank you!

9/15/2023 Airport Concession Update

At an airport meeting yesterday, we learned that Airport Concessions (MarketPlace) is launching a new healthy eating concept. Customer feedback overwhelmingly requested more healthy options. There will be 3 phases in which a total of 27 new concession projects will occur. Phase One includes Rusty Taco, Cava and Extreme Pita. We’ll share more information when we receive it.

9/8/2023 Real Time Report and L & F Forms Have Been Fixed

We believe the problem accessing these forms from certain TA Info Desks has been resolved. Please notify the office if you are still experiencing issues.

9/8/2023 Lightning Detected

We received a message from Operations at 4:56pm stating that lightning has been detected within 5 miles of the airport. This means that most airlines will require ramp service employees to stay indoors until safe to be outside. This usually impacts getting bags to connecting flights and to the baggage carousels as well as missed flights and/or cancellations. We’ll let you know of any updates.

9/7/2023 Capital One Lounge Now Open. Need Your Input on Walking Directions

The Capital One lounge is located post security. I made a dry run today to check it out as a passenger. If you get a moment, please try these out and let me know if they are accurate and clear. Suggestions welcome!

From TSA Precheck:

When you clear TSA Precheck, the lounge is just to the right. Don’t go down the escalator.

From East Security:

After clearing security, take the escalator with the sign showing to “D, H, Z” gates. At the top, don’t follow additional signage to D, H, Z, gates. Instead, make a slight right and walk toward the elevators across from the 9/11 Memorial. The elevator (behind Dunkin) has a small placard near the up/down buttons that reads “Capital One Lounge”.

 From West Security:

United Airlines experienced a 40-minute computer issue which affected their entire system. So far here at Dulles, we haven’t heard about any major impact.

Airport Ops has been contacted and they haven’t been able to contact anyone from Royal Air Maroc for information. Swissport is their Customer Service handling agent. Aerotrain Central continues to work on the system outage to diagnosis the problem, no ETA for return to service at this time. Mobile Lounge Shuttles are running to transport people between the Terminal and the C Gates and D Gates. Another Mobile Lounge shuttle route is transporting people between C gates and A gates. People traveling between the Terminal and A and B Concourse should use the walk back tunnel.

8/25/2023 MWAA Lost & Found Closed Early

We’ve just discovered the MWAA Lost and Found office closed early today (2p) for a meeting. We were unaware of the early closing until a passenger told the Volunteers at L1. TA will suggest that they let us know beforehand if that is to happen again.

L1, L2, and International have a small supply of this very detailed system map. It is packed with information.  In addition to a large Fairfax County map, it also has a Virginia Railway Express (VRE) map and a Metrorail map. So, if you get a minute, you might want to take a look.

8/23/23 Lost & Found Log Not Working at L2 Computers

Update: As of 8/25/23 MWAA IT has identified the problem but needs MWAA Security to approve the work.

We are unable to access the Lost & Found Log at both computers at L2. The response says “Your Connection is Not Private”. It has been reported to TechWorks and they will send someone out to troubleshoot either today Wed Aug 23 or tomorrow Thu Aug 24. If you are on duty when the technician arrives, please let the Office know. Thank you!

In the meantime, please call the Office to record lost items or L1.

We have had several airport patrons asking about “free parking for disabled veterans.” There is a website (not an official MWAA website) that has listed on it that Dulles (IAD) offers free parking for disabled veterans.  This information is incorrect. The July Chaser Tickets at the desks will still work on August 1. The Chaser Tickets will be updated/replaced when Staff comes in later on Tuesday. We didn’t want you to think we forgot about it. Also note: Some tickets will have “USO” printed on them. The Parking people made a mistake in printing but they said it’s totally o.k. to use them.

8/1/2023 Parking Changes for Employees (please note this does not apply to TA Volunteers)

Effective August 1st all employees currently parking in the Garages will relocate to the purple Economy Parking Lot.  Employees will take a shuttle service that operates 24/7. The shuttle will transport to the ground transportation level in front of the Main Terminal. Purple shuttle bus pick-up and drop-off will be at Curb 2.

Travelers Aid Volunteers parking remains the same:  You can park at the Terminal Lot, Garage 1 or Garage 2 during your volunteer shift

7/20/2023: Launch of the Sunflower Program at Dulles and DCA

We are excited to launch the Sunflower Program here at Dulles and at DCA today! We had a kickoff event near the Employee Checkpoint and promoted the program to employees, passengers, and members of the community.

Hidden Disabilities: Sunflower Program Information

Not all disabilities are visible. Autism, MS, Anxiety, and more are considered invisible disabilities. These disabilities can cause individuals to have a difficulty during their travels or need additional time.   In order to minimize these challenges, we are proud to be a part of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program.  Passengers can pick up a complimentary Sunflower lanyard to indicate they have an invisible disability at the Information Desks at Baggage Claim 6 and 11 and at the USO near Baggage Claim 12.

If you see someone wearing a lanyard it is to symbolize that they may need more time  and possibly additional assistance. You can ask them, “Can I help you?” or May I assist you with anything?”

Sunflower Lanyards and Supporter Pins

• If any volunteers would like a Sunflower Lanyard or a Supporter Pin, please let the TA office know. We do have a number of supporter pin packets in the office so you can also stop by!

How will Travelers Aid be involved?

• Passengers/Visitors will be instructed to approach L1 (Bag 6) or L2 (Bag 11) and request a Sunflower Lanyard. The lanyards will be in a clear packet with information, a sunflower lanyard, and a Dulles sticker.  The passenger/visitor does not have to give you any additional information, they only need to ask for one.
• The Sunflower Lanyards will be kept in a cabinet market by a Sunflower Program Brochure at L1 and L2 (not on top of the desk).
• When the Sunflower lanyard supply is low, please inform the Travelers Aid office and we will request more.
• L1 and L2 Volunteers: Please make a tally mark for each lanyard you are giving out. This will be short-term, but would just like counts for the couple weeks of the program.
• The USO will also have lanyards available to distribute

Emirates will be utilizing Gate B42/44 for their operations today.  Inbound and outbound flight on approximately 5 hour delay.

7/6/2023: Sorry We’ve Missed You Signs

We’ve placed new signs at all desks pre-security. Please position them on the counter when you step away to assist a customer and at the end of the day. This helps Staff and other Volunteers, especially Rovers, know if a desk is currently staffed or not. Thank you!

We’ve been notified that Metro Maps can’t be ordered until the end of July. This is the second delay notice we’ve encountered so, fingers crossed. Our current supply is unfortunately low.

7/5/2023:British Airways/BA Flight Number Irregularities

BA293/BA292 for Wed Jul 5 and Thu Jul 6 will operate as 777-300 instead of an A380. The flight number will be adjusted to BA1293/BA1292 so if you look online it will show 293/292 as cancelled. It is not cancelled. It is operating under different flight numbers.

7/4/2023: Starting at 5pm Free Metro Service until close

This July 4, let Metro get you to and from Independence Day festivities stress and fare-free. Metrorail, Metrobus, and MetroAccess will be fare-free on Tuesday, July 4 from 5 p.m. until the system closes, with frequent service to the National Mall and other celebrations across the region.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on July 4, Metrorail faregates will be open, and fare-free signage will be posted throughout the stations and on buses to communicate that customers do not need SmarTrip cards if using Metro after 5 p.m.
Frequent service will be provided on all Metrorail lines all day, with service increasing after 4 p.m. to accommodate crowds traveling to fireworks and other evening festivities. Orange Line customers are reminded that Vienna and Dunn Loring stations are closed due to rail replacement and fiber optic cable installation. Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule, with supplemental service on select routes to mitigate crowding. Delays and detours are possible due to road closures near the National Mall.

6/1/2023: Smoking Lounges are Closed

All 4 smoking lounges in the concourses have been permanently closed. We will update when we have information on what will be in those spaces when we have the information. For those passengers needing to smoke – they would have to go back to the Main Terminal arrivals and smoke outdoors at the designated stations on the ground transportation level. (They would have to go through security again to return to their gate).

Main Terminal Roof Replacement – Departure Lanes

Work will begin in Zone 2 and proceed west in phases. Each phase will close a section of the two pull-off lanes and sidewalk within the departure curb. Active construction may take place between 6am to 6pm daily from now through June. Weekend work is possible should weather be an issue. TCAS Announcement System Update:

MWAA advised us they are still experiencing problems with the TCAS system and will be down until further notice. They will let us know once it is back up and tested. However, a Volunteer reported the system is working at L2 so we are just passing that info along./Added 5-24-2023

Effective May 1, 2023, Cleaners of America is the new vendor for airport janitorial services. (Restrooms, trash removal, public areas, etc.) Their phone number remains the same.

Greenway Toll Road Fun Run –  Road Detours and Closures:

On Saturday, May 6, beginning at 2:00am, the Dulles Greenway 267, West Toll Road, will be closed from Route 28 to Route 772, Ashburn Broadland Blvd, for the “Run the Greenway Charity Event”. This will include closure of Ramp G to 267 West at the airport from eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway until 12:00pm Noon. All traffic outbound from the airport expecting to use Ramp G to 267 West will be rerouted to Route 28 North. Exits onto the Greenway from Routes 606 and 607 in the area will also be closed. Please use Waxpool Rd to Route 772 or Route 28 North to Route 7 to bypass the Dulles Greenway Charity Event./Added 4-28-23

Play Airlines/OG Begins Daily Service to Iceland on Wed April 26:

Daily flights begin to Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Reykjavik, Iceland tomorrow. Play Airlines ticket counter is located at Kiosk 1 (Front) next to Allegiant. They will utilize Gates A24 and A26. Wheelchair service provided by Huntleigh.  OG141 arrives IAD at 5:40pm and OG142 departs to KEF at 6:50pm. The Info Manual and other resources to updated soon.

TCAS Customer Paging Computer Not Working:

AeroTrain Scheduled Maintenance:

On Wednesday, April 19, there will be no AeroTrain service from 12:01am-2:00am. Passengers are advised to use the walk back tunnel and the Mobile Lounge service for transportation. Mobile Lounge shuttles will be available to transport passengers from the Main Terminal to the C Gates and D Gates. However, for passengers traveling between the Main Terminal and the A and B concourses, it is recommended to use the walk back tunnel./Added 4-18-2023

4/17/2023 8:56am- Employee Checkpoint Closed – TSA ICC advises that the Employee Checkpoint is closed due to equipment issues.  All employees will be directed upstairs to Lane 50 at Pre-check for screening until this issue is resolved.

Network Modernization Thu April 13:

Beginning at 11:55pm Thu April 13, Information Technology technicians will begin work which will cause an outage between 15 minutes and 1 hour. If a roll back is required, the outage may be extended until 3am. Curbside Vehicle Drop-Off: Located on the Departures Level Curb in Departures Zone 3, is open between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
The curbside drop-off location is only a few steps away from the Airport entrance, airline ticket counters and TSA PreCheck security entrance.
Pull up to the curbside drop-off and leave your car with our friendly, trained valet agents.
Alternative Vehicle Drop-Off: The Valet Service Center, located in the Terminal Lot, is open 24 hours a day for vehicle drop-offs at any time.

• All vehicle pick ups will be provided at the Valet Service Center.
• The Valet Service Center is open 24 hours a day and is located in the Terminal Lot, just a short walk outside the Baggage Claim Level.

4/5/2023:  Friendly Reminder. Please remember to pull the volunteer breakroom door shut all the way prior to leaving. We have found the door open a few times over the past couple of days. The airflow sometimes changes and causes the door to ‘hover’ and not latch. Thank you!

The AeroTrain was stuck in the terminal and had 2 passengers evacuated from the train around 2:15pm. The AeroTrain will be slower than it typically is. It will be about a 10 minute wait between trains.

4/4/2023: Nursing Room Code – Process Update

The Nursing Room code has changed. Travelers Aid will no longer have the code for the Nursing Rooms.  If anyone asks for the Nursing Room code, they can find the phone number for Airport Ops on the plaque next to the Nursing Room area. They will need to call Ops directly to get access to the Nursing Room.  If they do not have a cell phone, they can use one of the free phones in front of the restrooms or a Travelers Aid desk phone to call Ops to request the room code.

4/4/2023: Handling Bags/Wallets/or any items that may contain currency/credit cards

When Volunteers are at a desk or podium and find at the desk and/or they are given a “lost” wallet/purse/bag/computer bag or any type of item that may contain paper currency or credit cards. The new direction is that they are immediately to call MWAA Police to pick up the item. This is at any time of day. Volunteers are not to open it up or look inside of it.

If a passenger approaches the desk/podium and has indicated they have left a bag or wallet in another part of the airport:  Volunteers should immediately call MWAA Police to let them know of the unattended bag/wallet and if the customer is at the desk with you. Volunteers cannot retrieve unattended bags or any wallets/items that may contain money.

If volunteers find/receive any items not listed above: Such as cell phones, neck pillows, glasses, etc. those items can be taken directly to lost and found.

2023 Honor Flight Information

Honor Flights is a 100% Volunteer Run Organization. They coordinate greeting our WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans at Dulles International Airport.

ALL greetings will take place in the main terminal volunteers DO NOT have to go through TSA Security. There is an occasional commercial flight when greets will happen at arrival/departure gate. In these instances, greeters will need a gate access pass (GAP) and WILL go through the regular TSA Security screening process. If a flight does allow gate access passes, there will be additional signups below that state “AT THE GATE”.

• KLM: Has been switching gates due to roof repairs but should only last a few more weeks. A15 will still be their gate assignment.
• Copa: Is using both A15 and A24 currently. Copa will stop using A24 once Iberia starts again on 3/26.
• Porter: Is only using A19 from now on.

Global Entry Enrollment On Arrival/EoA in FIS:

Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) is a CBP program that allows Global Entry applicants who are conditionally approved to complete their interviews upon arrival into the United States. The EoA program eliminates the need for a Global Entry applicant to schedule an interview at an enrollment center to complete the application process. Global Entry EoA in FIS is slated to begin Fri Mar 10. /Added 3/10/2023

Please note that any comments for airlines should be directed to the airlines and any comments for experience within IAB/FIS (customs) should be directed to CBP. Let them know that we have Customer Service Representatives, and the best way to leave a comment is to fill out a web form. This form is found on www.flydulles.com it is under the “Contact Us” section which is on the right-hand top side of the website.  This will bring up the form.

If they want to speak with someone directly and do not want to fill out a form, please let them know that you can forward them to a phone number, but there may or may not be a person available so to please leave a message and someone will get back to them. Then forward their call to the TA Office number.

Viewing the Schedule:

The best way to view the schedule is using the “Filter” on the right hand side and switching to the “Week” View.  This will give you the chronological order of the day, but will also show who is signed up as well so that you can see who you may be working with at L1/L2, etc.

On the left-hand side of the week view you can toggle to the correct day that you want to look at.

“Reporting Form”

Use this document to report any major incidents such as outages, calling the MWAA Police, Ambulance, Social Service incidents, etc.  Also use this sheet to let us know if you need something at the desk (either stocking materials or repairs)

ExpresCheck and CDC in IAB:

The CDC and ExpresCheck are conducting nasal swab testing to detect new COVID variants on international arriving passengers on a *voluntary* basis. This is part of a U.S. airport surveillance program for early detection to provide valuable information about variants coming into the United States. Volunteers are provided a free at-home COVID test for participating. /Added on 12-15-2022

Closed — XpresCheck Covid Testing site:

The site at IAD has closed. Click the “Covid Information” button on the Dashboard for two offsite locations.

ResourcePath, LLC in Sterling seems to be more customer friendly. They are open 7 days a week. Mon-Fri 7:30a-8p, Sat 7:30a-4p, Sun 9a-5p. Walk-ins are welcome. They do same-day PCR tests with results in 1-2 hours. The cost is $150 out of pocket. /Updated 12-14-2022.

Global Entry/Enrollment on Arrival Update:

CBP at Dulles will perform the Enrollment on Arrival, Global Entry interview on conditionally approved applicants at the *CBP primary booths*. This service will only be for international arriving passengers at the Main Terminal. Only passengers who have received written confirmation that they are conditionally approved for the Global Entry, Trusted Traveler program will have the opportunity to enroll. The passenger must present their Traveler Identifier Number prior to commencement of the Enrollment on Arrival interview. The Global Entry processing is available to passengers 24 hours/seven days a week beginning Thu Dec 15, 2022./Added to Updates on 12-6-2022

I-94/Passport Stamps

As of July 1, 2022 passports are no longer being stamped for foreign visitors to the U.S. arriving via air and sea.

CBP no longer stamp passports when pax enter the country. Individuals who enter the country need to wait a minimum of 24 hours before their data will be electronically entered on the I-94. Once that time passes, the pax should be able to enter the site and obtain their information.

If a pax needs to update or correct information on their I-94, they should go to the deferred inspection station located in the hallway of the Global Entry waiting chairs.

Bike Rack:

• Did you know Dulles has a Bike Rack?  The bike rack is located on the far EAST side of the terminal outside the Baggage Claim area.  Follow the signs for the Pet Relief Area near Baggage Claim #1. Exit the Tunnel, go past the loading dock and the “bike parking” area is next to the fence, on the right, just past the dumpster.  It is in the shape of the Dulles Airport
• “Turo” is similar to Airbnb but for car rentals. The host arranges the pick-up location. It could be on airport property or virtually anywhere in the vicinity. The customer receives that information from the host. If you’re curious for more info checkout turo.com

• Virginia Breeze/MegaBus offers 3 daily trips in each direction from IAD to Union Station or Points South. Prices vary from $15-$18. More information can be found at their website- https://virginiabreeze.org/
